Train for a career in football with AFC Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon operates a full-time programme of education and football development at Merton College and invites applications to its under 19 Academy squad for the academic year 2008-2009. The AFC Wimbledon football development programme is ideal for those who have been released from professional football club academies or centres of excellence. Further details about the Academy can be found by visiting the Merton College website here.

To become a member of the under 19 Academy squad at Merton College students must:
• Successfully complete AFC Wimbledon’s football trials to be held over the coming months.
• Meet the appropriate entry requirements of Merton College.
• Be aged over 16 and under 19 on 31 August 2006.

To participate in the full weekly 10 hour programme of coaching, training and playing boys need to apply for the BTEC level 1, 2 or 3 courses in Sports and Coaching. Boys who wish to study other academic or vocational subjects will also be considered but this will depend on timetabling once an offer at Merton College is confirmed.

Students made an offer will be notified of enrollment which starts in August. The College will make every effort to accommodate successful trialists but, as in the case of any prospective student, cannot guarantee admission in September unless all academic qualifications are met.

Boys who are accepted into the squad will get the opportunity to develop their football skills, knowledge and understanding. There will be opportunities to play in the Football Conference Youth League (FCYL), a midweek floodlit youth league, the FA and other Youth Cups. The goal is for boys to attain their full potential as footballers and for the very highest achievers to progress to the senior AFC Wimbledon reserve and first teams.

More general information about Merton College is available in a prospectus, which may be requested direct from the College on 020 8394 3038 or at its website here.
