Dons mean Business
Laurence Lowne went down to TFS-KM to report back from the ?Dons mean Business? commercial evening last week:
Miles Jacobson (MD of Sports Interactive) and Alan Keen (MP) were the main speakers at the recent commercial evening, convincing around 50 businesses in attendance of the opportunities available at AFC Wimbledon. Their enthusiasm for the club was apparent and they were ably backed up by Ivor Heller.
An excellent multimedia presentation captured the early years with grainy black and white images, the decades of success, then hurt, and success again as AFC Wimbledon was formed. All areas of the main stand were used during the evening, with a Pimms reception in the President?s Lounge followed by a brief look at the stadium, then a trip into the main bar for Ivor to spell out the clubs? success, drive and ambition.
The evening concluded in the back bar with a buffet and various exhibitions of different aspects of the club. Representatives of The Dons Trust, the Dons Directory, Community Football Scheme and Commercial Activities were there to answer questions and seal deals. The club also showed off its growing number of cups, trophies and awards.
There were a number of reasons to hold a corporate event and naturally looking to sign deals and bring additional funds into the club was high on the agenda, but creating relationships with local businesses fits very nicely with the club being at the heart the community.
