Squad for Walton and Hersham game

Dave Anderson has announced the following squad for the game against Walton and Hersham tomorrow :

Andy Little; Paul Smith; Simon Sweeney; Paul Lorraine; Wayne Finnie; Antony Howard; Lee Kersey; Chris Gell; Casey Maclaren; Wes Daly; Steve Watson; Lewis Cook; Luke Garrard; Jermaine Darlington; Robin Shroot; Roscoe Dsane; Scott Fitzgerald; Tommy Hutchings; Stephen Goddard.

?Luke trained with no reaction on Thursday so we are delighted to have him back in the squad. Darren Grieves trained on Thursday and played 45 minutes for the reserves this afternoon so we will see how he is tomorrow before we make any decision about him taking part in the game.

"Looking back at the Staines game I thought it was a fairly even first half. I was pleased we responded so quickly after they took the lead, and at that stage I thought we were well on top but the sending off changed the game. I hate diving but Wes assures me all he was doing was jumping to get out of the way of a challenge.

"It will be a very different Walton side we will face tomorrow; their new manager has come in and changed the squad dramatically. If we win tomorrow we will have taken seven points from the three games which is a decent return from the Christmas games and that?s very much what we were aiming to do.?

Squad for Staines Town

Dave Anderson has announced the following squad for the game against Staines today:

Andy Little; Paul Smith;Paul Lorraine; Wayne Finnie; Antony Howard; Lee Kersey; Chris Gell; Byron Bubb; Casey Maclaren; Wes Daly; Steve Watson; Lewis Cook; Jermaine Darlington; Robin Shroot; Roscoe Dsane; Scott Fitzgerald; Tommy Hutchings; Stephen Goddard.

"With Simon Sweeney suspended and Steve Butler now away it means we have to make changes but we have players in the squad good enough to cover them. Christmas is an important time with the games coming quickly, but if you put a few results together you find yourself shooting up the table. If we show the spirit and application we did at Heybridge I think we will have a very good Christmas.?

Coach travel to Heybridge and Staines

Following our recent message about coach bookings, we are pleased to confirm that the coach to Heybridge will go ahead as planned. Although we have not reached the target number of passengers, we have sufficient to justify going ahead with the coach.

Please note that there are still some spaces available on the Heybridge coach. These can be booked by calling the club's office on 020 8547 3528 between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm any day this week.

Unfortunately, the bookings for Staines are too few to justify operating a coach and so the Staines coach is cancelled. We are very sorry that we have to do this, but we cannot operate coaches at the levels of losses suggested by the bookings to date.

An announcement about coaches to Ramsgate and Gravesend will be made later this week, once we have completed a review of our pricing.

Dave calls the Shots again

What a difference a week makes.

Dave Anderson was understandably very upbeat after yesterday?s 2-1 win at Aldershot. ?Last week we were honest and said we had let the club down at Billericay so, to be fair, I think we can say we were good today.

?It is important to learn lessons in football and, from when I heard the draw, it was on my mind to change the system from the Exeter game. We just felt we needed to be set up a little bit differently.

?Aldershot were on top in the first half and we might have gone in more than one down. But to concede a goal just before half-time and make a comeback like that is terrific. I thought we passed and kept the ball great after the break. We frustrated them and still tried to get a third goal.

?This is by far the biggest result this club has had and let?s be proud of that.?

We asked Dave who he would single out from the overall performance. ?No individual; that wouldn?t be right. We asked the team for a response to last week and we got it. It was a real solid performance from a dressing room that is very much together. It takes a while for a squad to settle but it has settled in well and the dressing room is a very happy place, especially last night.?

Dave reported that there appeared to be no new injuries from the game. As for who he wants in the next round ?anyone at home or someone big away?.

Squad for Aldershot

Dave Anderson has announced the following squad for tomorrow's FA Trophy game at Aldershot:

Andy Little; Paul Smith; Simon Sweeney; Steve Butler; Antony Howard; Lee Kersey; Chris Gell; Byron Bubb; Casey Mclaren; Wes Daly; Steve Watson; Lewis Cook; Jermaine Darlington; Robin Shroot; Roscoe Dsane; Scott Fitzgerald; Stephen Goddard.

Darren Grieves suffered a reaction to last night's reserve game and is not in the squad. Paul Barnes's injury nightmare continues and he too is not available, while Michael Haswell is still out with a knee injury. Lee Kersey needs a fitness test and so Paul Lorraine will travel with the squad; we are seeking clearance for him to play in the Trophy if needed. In addition, Wayne Finnie does not arrive back until tomorrow morning and so he is not included.

Dave said "this is a big cup tie and a chance to play a team from a higher league, which is a challenge but one we always enjoy. So, the management team is looking forward to it, the players are looking forward to it and so, I am sure, are the fans. It should be great atmosphere and our fans reacted very well when they were outnumbered at Exeter; I'm hoping for the same fantastic support from them tomorrow."

Dave on Banstead and injuries

After last night's 4-2 victory, Dave Anderson focused on the younger players' performance. "This was a game we wanted to win but we also used it to bring on some of the younger players at a pace that will suit them. I was very pleased with Robin Shroot's performance and thought he was excellent throughout. In the end we had to take him off because he was suffering from cramp, but he did very well.

"Stephen Goddard did very well too, taking his chances with aplomb and laying on a couple too. He took a knock on his calf but we think he will be OK.

"We took Roscoe off because he was feeling unwell at half time and the doctor recommended that he come off. We think it was just the last after-effects of his recent flu but we will be keeping an eye on him to make sure it is no more than that. I am confident that he will be OK for his return to Aldershot."

Coach travel with AFC Wimbledon

There are about 15 places still available for the coach to Aldershot. These can be bought by calling the club?s office (020 8547 3528) between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm on weekdays and before tonight's match against Banstead.

To date we have sold only 7 tickets for the Heybridge coach and 8 for the Staines coach. The sales are disappointing for Staines in particular as we were presented with a petition from fans asking that we run a coach for that game, on a day when public transport is severely limited.

While we want to do everything we can to help fans get to away games, we cannot run coaches at the losses that we are likely to incur with the current level of bookings. We need to give reasonable notice to the coach company if we want to change the arrangements. Therefore, we have decided that we will cancel the coaches and reimburse those people who have booked for Staines and Heybridge, unless we have at least 40 bookings for each coach by Tuesday 19 December. However, the Aldershot coach will definitely go ahead even though, at the present level of booking, it will also make a loss.

As fans will be aware, some time ago WISA undertook to sponsor fans' coaches by underwriting losses on individual trips, but this agreement was entered into before the low level of bookings became apparent. We do not think it is reasonable to ask WISA to subsidise the losses suggested by the current level of bookings and therefore we will not be doing so.

Dave's thoughts after Billericay defeat

Dave Anderson was in sombre mood after yesterday's 3- 0 defeat against Billericay.

"After recent results and performances I went into the game optimistic that we would get something out of it. I am pretty sure that was what the supporters expected too, so it makes it doubly disappointing that we put on such a poor performance and got such a poor result.

"I'll be blunt. I always try to defend my players but I can't defend that performance. I feel let down by it and I know that the supporters must feel let down by the players and that they will also feel let down by me.

"Billericay applied themselves better in every department and we were beaten by a better side on the day.

"On the injury front, we had to take Steve Butler off because he had double vision. By the end of the game he was starting to recover so I hope he will be OK very soon. I'm more worried about Michael Haswell who hurt his knee ligaments in a block tackle, but we'll need to wait for Mike Rayner's opinion on Tuesday to see how he really is.

"Tuesday night's game is a chance to get this result out of our system and we will be looking to do that, no question, before we face Aldershot next Saturday."

Squad for Billericay

Dave Anderson has announced the following squad for the Ryman Premier League game at Billericay tomorrow:

Andy Little; Paul Smith; Simon Sweeney; Michael Haswell; Steve Butler; Antony Howard; Lee Kersey; Chris Gell; Byron Bubb; Wes Daly; Lewis Cook; Jermaine Darlington; Paul Barnes; Roscoe Dsane; Scott Fitzgerald; Stephen Goddard.

For once Dave was able to announce an injury list that is shortening. "Antony Howard and Steve Watson trained on Thursday night and, if they have no reaction, they will be available tomorrow. Roscoe Dsane is over his 'flu and is also available.

"Paul Barnes and newly-contracted Stephen Goddard will face a fitness test before the game but Darren Grieves is not ready yet. If all goes well, he will return to the squad for Tuesday night's Surrey Senior Cup game. Meanwhile, Robin Shroot is suspended following his sending off a couple of weeks ago and Wayne Finnie is away for a week."

Dave also had better news regarding Mark Rooney. "Mark's scan showed that his knee is not as bad as we feared and he doesn't need an operation. Nonetheless, he needs to work on it to strengthen it and we don't really expect to see him back in fewer than six weeks."

Turning to tomorrow's game, Dave said "It seems that everyone we play at the moment is close to us in the league so they are all going to be tight games. But I feel that the team is playing well and we hope to continue in that vein of form. It will be a difficult game as it is never easy to play Billericay, but we are going there with the aim of winning."

Finally, Dave had this to say about reports of a possble signing. "We had hoped to sign a midfield player by today but negotiations have broken down. This sort of thing is very frustrating after spending a lot of time watching the player and assessing how well he would fit in. But you can't make anyone sign if they don't want to, so we will move on."

After a number of enquiries, Billericay have advised us that the pitch has been affected by heavy rain this week but they expect the match to go ahead.

Coach travel for the next few away games

With no Saturday home games for nearly four weeks, we are now selling coach tickets by phone (or drop-in) application for the Billericay, Aldershot, Heybridge and Staines games.

Coach tickets for any of these games may be bought by calling the club office on 020 8547 3528 between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm. For all games after Billericay, coach tickets can be bought from the complimentary tickets window before the Banstead home game on 12 December.

We initially said we would not run coaches to Staines, but we now understand that public transport on Boxing Day is very limited so we have decided to operate a coach service for that game.

Tickets are 12 for adults and 7 for concessions. Times of travel vary for each game but are printed on the tickets. As usual, the coach will leave fromm The Woodman Pub and Kingsmeadow.

Project Managers needed

The Dons Trust Fundraising team have a couple of major events planned for March / April 2007 where we have lots of volunteer effort needed, but need strong project managers to drive them through. Both are expected to raise between 10-20k as stand-alone events.

You do not need to commit to longer term involvement, but will need to be able to pick up and drive these events from late December onwards, and need to have skills in planning, budgeting and team co-ordination. If you think you can help, please contact fundraising@thedonstrust.org

AGM on 18th December

Dons Trust members are reminded of the AGM, which takes place at Kingsmeadow on 18th December (7.30pm in the back bar). Members will shortly be receiving the papers for the AGM by mail or e-mail, if they have not already received them. For ease of reference, a full set of the papers for the DT AGM is attached below.

The AFCW PLC AGM will be held on the same evening, following the DT AGM. It has been the recent practice of AFCW to allow DT members who are not AFCW shareholders to remain for that meeting, if they so wish, although only AFCW shareholders will be eligible to vote on matters at the AFCW AGM.

We look forward to seeing as many members at the AGM as possible.

Please help our drive to increase our attendances

Earlier this week we appealed for volunteers to help to collect names of new people coming to the Horsham game tomorrow, under the 'each one reach one' initiative.

The purpose of collecting these names is to enter them into a database so that we can continue to communicate with the new people as a means of trying to get some of them to come more often and increase our attendances. Everyone entered onto the database will be entered into a draw for a Tomtom navigation system.

To date, we have only two volunteers to help to collect the names and, since this initiative is aimed at increasing crowds, this is disappointing. If you can help on Saturday, please come to the main lobby at 1.00 pm and we will brief you. Your work will be finished by kick off time.

'Kids go free' and 'Each one reach one' for Horsham

This is a last minute reminder that the club is running two promotions for tomorrow's match against Horsham, with the aim of achieving our highest attendance of the season.

Firstly, 'Kids Go Free' entitles all kids under the age of 16 free entry to the terraces for tomorrow's match.

Secondly, 'Each One, Reach One' encourages all our season ticket holders to bring a friend to the match. Season ticket holders are entered into a draw for a TomTom navigation system for every friend they bring and everyone who buys a ticket tomorrow can also enter a separate draw for a TomTom.

Please try to get involved in either or both of these promotions, which you can take advantage of by just turning up on the day.

Squad for Horsham

Dave Anderson has announced the following squad for tomorrow's league game against table-topping Horsham:

Andy Little; Paul Smith; Simon Sweeney; Michael Haswell; Steve Butler; Antony Howard; Lee Kersey; Wayne Finnie; Chris Gell; Byron Bubb; Steve Tyson, Casey Maclaren; Wes Daly; Lewis Cook; Jermaine Darlington; Robin Shroot; Paul Barnes; Roscoe Dsane; Scott Fitzgerald; Stephen Goddard.

"I know this must seem like a tape on a loop but we continue to have substantial injury problems. Just to list them, we have Richard Butler ordered to rest his pelvic injury; Mark Rooney who saw a knee specialist this week (we are waiting for the report); Steve Watson recovering from concussion; Luke Garrard with a broken metatarsal; and to add to our woes, Darren Grieves has been in hospital since colliding with the Eastleigh goalkeeper - although we hope he will be discharged today; and Steve Wales, who missed Tuesday night's game through a virus - but it was just as well he did because we now find that he broke his ankle early in the first tie at Kingsmeadow. It isn't as bad as we first feared but Steve looks like he will be out for six weeks.

"Of course, there may be more problems yet, as I mustn't forget that we face fitness tests for Antony Howard, Paul Barnes and Jermaine Darlington. But, we built a larger squad this season to deal with this sort of thing and we will get through it. We have added Casey Maclaren, Steve Tyson and Stephen Goddard to the squad to make sure we have the cover we need.

"We are facing a top-of-the-table team tomorrow. They are probably the third or fourth team to be there in the last few weeks which shows how tight this league is. I am really looking forward to it and hope that we can reproduce the spirit and determination that we showed on Tuesday at Eastleigh. And I hope the crowd, and the Tempest End in particular, will give us the sort of support they gave us last week and, in fact, all season. With the injuries we've got, it makes the help that the crowd gives us all the more important."
