Profile: Matt Everard scored more goals from centre-back in 2003-4 than you'd expect from a striker. Some of them even came off his feet. Always likely to power home a crucial header, the two most memorable were the injury-time winner at Herne Bay and the one that took the Dons into the lead in the 2004 Premier Challenge Cup Final. Along the way, Matt turned down the chance to join home-town club Aldershot, which just secured him enough votes to be Player of the Year ahead of central defensive partner Danny Oakins. The former Ash United mans no nonsense style and calm head have resulted in the Dons conceding markedly fewer goals since he joined in February 2003.
